Chrismont Sagrantino 2021
After years of successfully evolving Tuscany’s treasured Sangiovese in the King Valley, Chrismont introduced the variety’s neighbouring partner from Umbria, Sagrantino, into its La Zona range of innovative varietals championed by Chrismont. A bold variety, with inky colour and rich tannins that have been tempered by Chrismont winemaker Warren Proft with new and one-year-old French barriques.
TASTING NOTES
COLOUR: Dark ruby red.
AROMA: Plum, blackberry, cherry and coconut aromas, with a background of dried herbs and leather.
PALATE: Earthy dark fruits introduce a full palate of defining tannins and playful acidity. Spices and dried basil add complexity. Rich and robust.
WINEMAKER NOTES
“Grapes are crushed and fermented in two batches; one on skins for seven days and the other fpost ferment maceration for 3 weeks. Drained into French oak hogshead barrels to complete primary and malolactic fermentation, the wine is then racked and returned to barrel for 18 months maturation before being blended and prepared for bottling. The wine is released after an extra twelve to twenty four months bottle age.” Warren Proft, winemaker
